Grant Wood: American Gothic

Grant Wood's American Gothic is one of the most recognisable paintings in American art, its stern farmer and his daughter standing before a white Gothic Revival farmhouse. First shown in 1930, the painting's deadpan style and small-town subject matter made it an instant sensation. A brilliant conversation-starter puzzle for any fan of classic Americana.
